Built in 2001 for over £4m, the York Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cycle bridge over the River Ouse in York, England. It connects New Walk to Terry Avenue, south of the city centre, and is part of a popular circular walking route. The bridge was designed to shorten the walking and cycling routes for people in the South Bank area of the city to the University of York and the city centre. If you are a pedestrian, then keep your wits about you. Cyclists will not give you any room and will not slow down either.

Bishopthorpe Palace is situated along the beautiful River Ouse south of the city centre of York. It's the official home of the Archbishop of York, and has been for all previous Archbishop's of York since 1241. Whilst the inside of the palace is only open for pre-arranged tours with quite a long waiting list, you can still admire the palace and its beautiful gatehouse from the footpath outside.

Built to subdue the rebellious north by William the Conqueror, Clifford’s Tower has been a royal mint, a medieval stronghold and a Civil War garrison. In 1190, one of the worst antisemitic massacres of the Middle Ages took place on the site of the tower when York’s Jewish community were trapped there by a violent mob and many Jews chose to commit suicide rather than be murdered. Great bike shop, everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful. The mechanics are knowledgeable so I definitely would recommend it if you're nervous about leaving people to repair your bike.

Recently resurfaced where the tree roots were causing a poor and dangerous surface (completed by about May 2022). Track widened were the work has taken place, and trees growing too close to the trail removed in these areas. Shop, pubs, a takeaway and a couple of cafés in Ricall village (The Pickled @ Ricall, The Dairyman Cafe), check opening times before committing. Also very nice cafe at Hollicars holiday park (Miller's Tearoom), just a 5 minute ride from the Ricall end of the trail. Booking advised to avoid disappointment, especially if you want a table inside. I ride this route most weekends from Selby through to York and back.
