When it comes to the beach, you have to pay attention to the tides, which can make it very small.

The three white houses on Chapel Point were built in the 1930s and feature in Daphne Du Maurier's novel 'The House on the Strand'.

Portmellon is a very small village and cove. The road closely hugs the sandy beach, which is completely covered by the sea at high tide. There is a snack shack in the beach carpark and a pub next door if you are in need of sustenance. If you approach Portmellon from the South West you will see the 'Beware Waves' sign on your left. Take heed on stormy days as the waves crash right over the road and can even hit the houses.

11월 1, 2023, Gorran Haven Beach and Harbour
There is plenty of trail running from Gorran Haven in both directions, including circular routes. The fishing village has a few shops and a picturesque harbour and makes a great start/finish point or stopover on a longer run.

Perched on the tip of Dodman Point you'll find Dodman Cross. Made of granite, its actually a navigational aid for those out at sea rather than a religious monument.

10월 25, 2023, View of Vault Beach
Also known as Vault Beach, the sea on this side of Dodman Point is often calm so it is a great place for a sea swim. It is also dog friendly all year round so a perfect destination for those hiking with four legged friends.

Lovely sandy, dog friendly beach. Narrow access roads from both directions and very limited parking, so better to access on a bike if you can manage the 20% hill on the way out

6월 19, 2021, Dodman Cross
Dodman Point (Cornish: Penn Den Varow) near Mevagissey is the highest headland on the south Cornwall coast, measuring 374 feet (114 m).[3] It is also known by its earlier names of the Deadman and Deadman's Point.[4] It hosts the remains of an Iron Age promontory fort,[2] and at its seaward end is a large granite cross, erected in 1896 to help protect shipping from this headland.[3] It is mentioned in the shanty Spanish Ladies. To its north-east and in its lee is the small anchorage and sand beach of Gorran Haven. Below the large stone cross, there is a way down to the bottom of the small cliffs and there is some climbing there on the faces mainly bouldering as it is rarely scaled so there are no fixed anchor points.[5] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodman_Point

1월 3, 2020, Portmellon Beach
Just over the hill from Mevagissey, Portmellon is an equally quaint village on the edge of the Cornish coast. The village lies in the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by a sandy beach and rugged coastline. At low tide, you can enjoy a walk on the beach, which then disappears at high tide. The houses facing the coast are characterized by their wooden shutters which are closed to protect their windows during raging storms.

Who does not shy away from the ascent or descent will be rewarded with a great beach section. The beach is due to the initially mentioned efforts and the fact that there are no toilets and no beach bar o.Ä. often relatively empty. Not for families, especially since the surf can be strong.

In the narrow streets of Mevagissey you find myriad shops, workshops, galleries, cafes and pubs, as well as many old buildings made of cob and slate. There are plenty of traditional fish and chip shops to try here, too. The picturesque town was once the centre of Cornwall’s pilchard fishery and, even today, still has a small working harbour with a few dozen fishing boats.

7월 4, 2019, Dodman Cross
Dodman Point is the highest headland on the south Cornish coast and affords breathtaking views. It also boasts abundant birdlife and interesting geology. There are remnants of an Iron Age earthwork, nearly 2,185 feet (666 m) long and over 20 feet (6 m) high, on the peninsula. A large granite cross marks the point, which was erected in 1896 as a navigational aid for seafarers.
