5월 7, 2023, Royal Fort House and Gardens
The Royal Fort House was built in the 18th century on the site of an old fort used in the English Civil war. Three different architects influenced the building and brought three styles of building to the project. If you look you will see Baroque, Palladian and Rococo styles of architecture. The gardens were designed by Humphry Repton in around 1800. Today the building is part of the university of Bristol, used by the faculty of science.

Standing proud on Castle Hill and visible above the trees for miles around is Blaise Castle. This 18th-century, Gothic Revival style folly was built by Robert Mylne and it became a popular attraction on the Blaise Castle Estate. From its turrets, much of Bristol can be seen, as well as Avonmouth and the Avon Gorge. Any run to Blaise Castle involves a little bit of legwork to get up the hill. However, you are amply rewarded with fun descents down towards Hazel Brook at the bottom of Henbury Gorge.

Stunningly beautiful in autumn and I reckon it would be lovely and shaded in the summer. Lots of dog walkers around, so it's definitely not a speed run... just chill and enjoy the scenery.

Extremely nice to cycle through in the week when there's fewer prams. The switchbacks up the south side of the valley have storm gutters on the turn so be careful on the descent (and ascent on road tyres).

Very pretty, but the main paved path is usually quite busy with walkers, so keep an eye on your speed!

You can either stick to the path or hop off onto the single track that weaves around the stream

Castle Park is a large area of green space in the heart of Bristol, right next to the River Avon. A vibrant place at all times of year, the park really springs to life in summer, when impromptu music, games, barbeques, gatherings and festivities create a wonderful atmosphere. At the centre of the park is St Peter's Church and a sensory herb garden. Opened in 1978, the park is located in what used to be Bristol's main shopping district, an area which was destroyed during the Blitz.

12월 4, 2019, Royal Fort House and Gardens
The Royal Fort House is a historic house in Tyndalls Park, Bristol. The building currently houses the University of Bristol's Faculty of Science offices, the Brigstow Institute, Elizabeth Blackwell Institute for Health Research, the Cabot Institute and the Jean Golding Institute for data-intensive research. The house was built for Thomas Tyndall KCB, in the 18th century, on the site of bastions which were fought over during the English Civil War and demolished in 1655. The Baroque, Palladian and Rococo styles of architecture are because of the work of three different architects: James Bridges, Thomas Paty, John Wallis. The garden was laid out by Humphry Repton around 1800. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Fort_House#Royal_Fort_Gardens)

This is a nice interlude away from the roads and cooler if its sunny and warm. There are dog walkers so its not somewhere you can rush through but provides a nice change of pace. There is a museum at Blaise House - Check opening times on this site https://www.bristolmuseums.org.uk/blaise-castle-house-museum/ There is also cafe and toilets - these are signposted from the Museum.

The ‘Courtyard Cafe’ is a convenient place to stop for a cuppa and loads of outside space. It’s on the Eastern side of the mansion house by the car park.

Check the closing times of the gates as your enter. They tend to follow sunset throughout the year.
