Brilliant viewpoint and lots of route choices that run you south through the Black Mountains

Stunning ridge hike on the way down from Hay Bluff. Fantastic views

Great walk that's pretty accessible for most people to achieve, challenging but doable! The route I took incorporated Lord Hereford's Knob. Hay Bluff is a prominent hill at the northern tip of the Black Mountains, an extensive upland massif which straddles the border between south-east Wales and England. The mountain sits at the point where the main northeast-facing escarpment of the Black Mountains meets the northwest facing escarpment, the next peak to the west being Twmpa. The flat summit of Hay Bluff which is marked by a beautiful welsh dragon trig pillar at a height of 677 metres (2,221 ft) overlooks the middle Wye Valley and the book town of Hay-on-Wye.

Black Hill stands at the top of the Cat's Back ridge and south of Hay Bluff. The running here is really fun, with good trails underfoot and soaring ridgelines with very far-reaching views. The summit trig point stands at 2,100 feet (640 m).

Hay Bluff stands at 2,221 feet (677 m) at the northern end of a wonderfully runnable ridge. The Offa's Dyke path and the Llanthony horseshoe route both pass it. It's also a good, shorter loop from the Hay Bluff car park to the north, to include the excellent Cat's Back ridge if you have time. Great views to the north over Hay.

Black Hill stands at 2,100 feet (640 m) in the Black Mountain region of Bannau Brycheiniog national park. It's the summit of the awesome Cat's Back ridge to the south and links easily into a nice loop with Hay Bluff to the north.

Amazing views and fantastic walks along the gospel pass

Part of the old pilgrimage route roughly in the middle of the Gospel Pass in the valley of Ewas. Stunning walks from that as a base or the old priory at Llanthony

Stunning views from Hay Bluff of Twmpa or Lord Hereford's Knob is a mountain in south-east Wales, forming a part of the great northwest scarp of the Black Mountains. It lies 1.86 miles west of the border with England, and around 4.34 miles south of Hay-on-Wye. Elevation: 690m

A stunning remote capel in Abergavenny

Twmpa, also known as Lord Hereford’s Knob has a sweeping, wedge-shaped profile. It forms part of the awesome north eastern escarpment of the Black Mountains, just a couple of miles over the border from England and offers you a gorgeous (if at times boggy) ridge run. The quickest route up Twmpa ascends from the car parking at Gospel Pass. Just make sure you've warmed up as it's a challenging start for cold muscles!

To the East are views across the Cats Back and onwards to the Malvern Hills and miles into England. To the West are views of Twmpa (Lord Hereford's Knob). If you've climbed the steep ascent from the North onto the Bluff, this is your reward - at least if the weather is on your side.

Twyn Llech (703m), also known as Black Mountain, is the only Marilyn to fall exactly on the Welsh–English border, straddling Brecknockshire (Powys) and Herefordshire. The Black Mountain is the highest point on the Hatterrall Ridge, with Offa's Dyke Path passing along the ridge. Because of the very shallow gradients along the summit ridge it's virtually impossible to determine the actual high point by sight. The ground is peaty and normally very wet even in good weather, especially on the highest ground.

Definitely worth taking a closer look at this lovely church.

When the cloud clears the views are stunning, easy to access from the parking and an easy path up to it.

This is a beautiful area and is popular with hikers, paracenders, bikers and the general population at large. There is a narrow single track road, with ample passing places, that passes over the common below Hay Bluff and it goes onto the famed viewpoint of the Gospel Pass. There's the main car park below the Bluff but there's also ample parking off the road in dry weather too. Super place for family picnics and walks.
