Weston's Cider of Much Marcle is rightly famous for such gems as Old Rosie. Obviously all this cider has to come from somewhere, and the answer is that the cider apples are grown on orchards such as this one. The orchards are extensive and in a picturesque location on the slopes of Marcle Ridge.

As you will often find with the old villages in these parts, the village has a manor house with fine grounds, including a church. Putley Court is a fine example set amongst trees with Marcle Ridge as a backdrop.

Lovely little church just along from the Putley Court. Complete with it's old fish pond that would have been tended by the monks.

Apparently on the same ground as the vineyard planted by the Bishop of Hereford in 1276, it is a spectacular location, particularly in autumn colours as it is now. The Evolution Winery produces some excellent wines too!

The apple orchard is also a delight to walk through at this time of year, lovely colours.

The Evolution Winery vineyards and orchards are the highlight of this section of the Herefordshire Trail, particularly in autumn colours. It's a shame it was a gloomy day as the trees and vines would have benefited from some sunshine to really bring out the colours.

Very pretty little side street with some cafés, museum and shops. Worth a visit.

Farmer’s Arms Pub

Quite arduous but we did this on the hottest day of the year. There is one place where the footpath appeared to be blocked and we ended up wriggling under a fence. Would have liked more woodland walk (a lot of paths run next to woods in the open) but overall a great success. We stopped for iced coff at the woodshed and paid to go into the castle grounds ( butnot the castle) where we walked around the lake, sat and read our books and used the truly outstanding toilets. Because of the heat warnings there were few people about. Overall a great success and we made it back to Ledbury sweaty but unbowed.

The scattered village of Putley oozes Herefordshire charm. Set amongst pasture, orchards and woodland, a walk in Putley's surroundings is gorgeous. The village contains no less than 49 listed buildings, whilst the region is famed for its beautiful apple orchards.

Ledbury's iconic Market House is an unmistakable presence, its timber frame hoisted up on stilts above the streets. The idea behind the design was to faciliate both a town hall in the main building and a bustling marketplace below it. Built during the 17th century, it is now a Grade I-listed building at the heart of the market town.

Nestled at the foot of the Malvern Hills, the market town of Ledbury is superbly situated in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. Famed for its timber-framed buildings and rich in culture, it is a vibrant town. Directly east are Bradlow Knoll and Eastnor Hill, their flanks wearing a patchwork cloak of grass and woodland. Beyond this is the main ridge of the Malvern Hills. The popular Herefordshire Beacon and the famous earthworks of British Camp are a magnificent ramble.
