A very special place in a remote location.

The tall spire of St Peter's can be seen for miles, especially from the south and the hills that surround Peterchurch. It is also the last resting place of Pt Robert Jones VC, who was awarded the honour for a desperate action at Rorkes Drift.

Worth a look in the churchyard to see the grave of Private Robert Jones VC, who was awarded the Victoria Cross from the Battle of Rorkes Drift (1879)

Interesting place, one of my favourite cycling route.

The Cathedral Green is open to bikes and Church Street, leading off it to the north, has several good cafes you can stop at.

The well-maintained cathedral is pleasing to the eye.

Traffic is light enough that you’re better sticking to the main B4348 that runs through the village rather than bothering with the narrow lane that runs parallel on the west side of the river.

You can cycle through the cathedral close to connect the route through town, avoiding some of the one-way system.

Great local independent cafe. Serves breakfast sandwiches and lunch as well as coffee and cakes. There are bike racks directly across the road so you can easily keep an eye on your ride from the outdoor seating or the tables by the front window. Open til 3pm, closed Sundays.

The modest climb is worth the reward of the views across the valley of the River Arrow towards Leominster and beyond that to the distant Brown Clee and Titterstone Clee in Shropshire.

One of the most scenic village greens in the county, overlooked by a cafe/deli and a grocery store if you want to stop.

A couple of ramps but generally a pretty steady gradient, and the top arrives quite quickly.

The well maintained fairways made it feel worthwhile carrying a full set of golf clubs on my ride. The groundsman didn’t look too happy about me walking over the greens in my road cleats though.
