The Dohna Castle in Mohrungen, today known as the Johann Gottfried Herder Museum, is more than just an old castle - it is a place where history comes to life. The simple facades of the building belie the treasures hidden inside. The castle, which was originally built in the 16th century as the residence of the noble von Dohna family, shines in its 18th century baroque style after numerous renovations and reconstructions. The extensive garden with the old sundial, which conveys a feeling of timelessness, is particularly impressive. A visit is not only worthwhile for those interested in history. The rooms, which have been restored down to the last detail, offer a glimpse into different eras - from Baroque to Art Nouveau. Paintings and antique furniture tell of the former residents and their time, while portraits of historical figures hang on the walls in the ballroom. It is a place that makes you feel how past and present merge with each other at every step. The location in the middle of Warmia-Masuria and the proximity to the historic town center of Morąg make the castle an ideal destination for a hiking break. It is a wonderful place to linger before exploring the surrounding hiking trails or simply letting your gaze wander over the old walls into the distance.

Cannons in front of the town hall in Morąg, cast in 1864 in Liège, Belgium. They were among many cannons used by the French army during the war with Prussia that broke out in 1870. However, the guns were captured by the enemy. The commanders of the victorious Prussian army decided to use excess weapons as monuments. One of the cities where the guns were delivered was Morąg.
