The castle is in complete ruins except for a tower that still stands. It is on top of a hill so the view is not bad and it is an interesting place to visit.

12월 24, 2025, Castillo de Marcilla

It is located at Plaza de la Cava, 1, in the town center of Marcilla (Navarra), easily accessible and surrounded by bars and a children's playground. This 15th-century Gothic fortress was built of brick on a stone foundation by Mosén Pierres de Peralta, with material and financial support from Charles III the Noble. It served both as a defensive stronghold and as a palatial residence for the Marquesses of Falces, descendants of Peralta. In 1516, the Marchioness Ana de Velasco saved the castle from being demolished by order of Cardinal Cisneros.

The ruins consist of a small central tower that served as a watchtower and accommodation for a small garrison and a walled area around it. Today only the ruins of the tower remain.

Originally a Roman fortress in a strategic location, the fortress is both a castle and a palace, although it was originally built as a court building to fulfil a military function. Since the 13th century, the Castle of Olite has been called the Palace of the King of Navarre.

The castle palace of Olite served as the residence of the kings of Navarre until the union of Navarre with Castile in the 16th century. The complex has been a listed monument since 1925.

Marcilla is most famous for its castle, but there are also other very interesting places to visit, such as the Church of San Bartolomé, the Virgen del Plu, the Monastery of Santa Maria and its small streets and squares.

The most famous building in Marcilla has to be its 15th century Gothic-style castle. It is the center of the town and around it you will find bars and cafes.

A magical place that hides a history of romanticism that dates back to the 13th century. Inside the Bardenas Reales park, this tower that has been eroded by the scourge of the weather today is a symbol of the region. Built by Sancho el Fuerte in the 13th century, it was originally conceived to protect the border between Navarre and Aragon. Later it was the prison of Princess Blanca of Navarra who was imprisoned by her father Juan II of Aragon for refusing the agreed marriage. The story goes that every night a shepherd came to give the princess food and drink and that when she was released, as a thank you, she herself gave this shepherd the land where her prison was located.

It is undoubtedly one of the most imposing and wonderful castles in all of Spain and one of the most luxurious in Europe. The Royal Palace was declared a National Monument in 1925 and its history dates back to the ancient court of the Kings of Navarre who built this magnificent castle in the 13th century on some Roman architectural remains. You can distinguish a French and Mudejar influence in its architecture and decoration, the responsibility of King Carlos III back in the 15th century who turned it into the palace that is seen today with a majestic Gothic style. The castle can be visited and is one of the busiest and most popular in Navarre. I suggest you check the official website to plan your visit, which can be guided, so you won't miss any detail of this dream place! https://tickets.palaciorealolite.com/es/909-palacio-real-de-olite?_adin=11344788580

The town of Marcilla is known for its Gothic-style castle built in the 15th century and which already attracts a lot of attention from the outside. It is also a good place to take a break and enjoy a pincho in the bars that surround it.

It is worth seeing the castle and moat (it is in a good state of conservation). It has a wonderful history and inside the castle there are many things to see. Everything around has bars with good terraces. It does not open on Saturdays and Sundays.
