The Hermitage of San Isidro is a chapel located in Villaverde, a former village populated by the Saavedra family, in the municipality of Villamayor de Santiago (Spain). It is a 16th-century Renaissance-style building. The chapel is the unfinished church of the old town of Villaverde, located 5 kilometers from the municipal seat, and was originally intended to be dedicated to the Apostle Saint James. A pilgrimage is organized for the feast of San Isidro, with mass and a procession.

You have to climb up to the antenna of the hermitage of the Virgin of Mercy, along the road on the side of the hermitage, it is a tough 400 meters but it is worth it.

It is a fortification from the Middle Ages in ruins, and very close to the town that gives its name to the old castle: Puebla de Almenara, a town in the province of Cuenca that in 2023 has a census of 331 residents.

To appreciate these wonderful views of the castle and the entire surrounding area, you must deviate from the road between Puebla de Almendara and the CM-310 towards Villamayor de Santiago. They are approx. 350 m from the road. Although the climb is quite steep, the effort is worth it.
