The current gate is the result of a reconstruction and fortification of the walls carried out between the 13th and 14th centuries. This reform gave it a much more defensive character, flanked by two large masonry towers and protected by a machicolation on the upper wall. From this gate the road that led to the Kingdom of Castile started and ended in the town of Molina de Aragón, from which it takes its name.
