3월 21, 2025, Castillo de Berlanga
This impressive castle has a rich history dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Initially, in the 10th and 11th centuries, there was a Muslim fortress on the site. After the Castilian conquest in the 12th century, it was expanded with a walled outer ring. Between 1460 and 1480, Luis Tovar and María de Guzmán ordered the construction of the stately castle. In 1512, the design and construction of an artillery fort for military purposes began. The castle features a blend of medieval and Renaissance elements, including a keep and a palace within the walls.

Climbing up from Berlanga de Duero, I gave my all, I argued with myself, but I won. If you are carrying panniers, grit your teeth and put on the smallest chainring and the largest sprocket and go ahead.

Gormaz Castle is one of the most incredible places you will see in these parts. This caliphal fortress, built in the second half of the 10th century, constituted the border between Al Andalus and Castile in the Middle Ages. The famous Cid was warden of the castle, which became the largest defensive construction of the Late Middle Ages in Europe.

The castle of Berlanga de Duero helps you to get an idea of the battles that were fought over these lands in the Middle Ages. Its wall and its four towers are very well preserved.

The very impressive Castello de Gormaz, which largely dates from Moorish times, lies grandiosely above the town of the same name and, in addition to a wonderful all-round view, even as a ruin still offers a very revealing picture of Moorish defense systems.

A good example of Castilian architecture. All of it is porticoed with wooden pillars that rest on a stone base. The beams, also made of dark wood, the balconies and the color of the walls, which recall the reddish Soria soil, give it a singular beauty, which is repeated in several of the noble streets that arise from it, where you can see some emblazoned mansions. In the last of the reforms of its pavement, archaeological remains were found, among them burials of medieval origin from an old convent. In this regard, we will point out that near the castle, in its eastern part, there are 21 rock tombs from the 10th century, probably the necropolis of the old castle. In the Plaza Mayor is the rebuilt municipal council, with flagstone in the lower section and brick in the upper section; There are also several commercial establishments. Various streets lead from this agora, each more interesting, such as the one that goes down to Hoz del Escalote, or Calle Real, with two emblazoned palatial houses, and near the latter the adobe houses stand out, so conspicuous in the old Jewish quarter, with its streets of Yubería Alta and Baja. The arcades remain in various sections of various streets, and you can even see a brick building on the first floor, supported on thick juniper beams. There are numerous bars and restaurants, and nearby grocery stores where you can buy supplies. Fountain in the Collegiate square
