Cabezo del Fraile is a geological formation located in the area known as the Bardena Negra, south of the Bardenas Reales of Navarre. At an altitude of 557 meters, it offers impressive panoramic views of the Bardenas.

The Bardenas Reales Natural Park is a stunning semi-desert landscape located in Navarre, northern Spain. This park, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, covers approximately 42,500 hectares and is characterized by its unique geological formations and biodiversity. In addition to its natural beauty, the park is home to a wealth of wildlife, including eagles, vultures, foxes, and reptiles. It is an ideal place for hiking and cycling, with an extensive network of trails and paths.

The hermitage dates from the end of the 17th century and venerates the image of the Virgin of Sancho Abarca who appeared near here on April 7, 1569. It is a beautiful place with wonderful panoramic views of the entire Bardenas Reales Park.

At an altitude of 556 meters, we find ourselves in the Peña del Fraile with wonderful views of the semi-desert territory of the Bardenas Reales Natural Park. The path to the top is well marked.

It is worth hiking from here to the summit of Peña del Fraile, very nice view of the unusual landscape, which consists largely of ocher-colored clay. This is the remnant of a prehistoric sea that gradually silted up due to the tectonic uplift of the Iberian plate.

A hike from the parking lot up here takes about 1 hour. The view of the unusual landscape of the semi-desert in the south of Navarre is indescribably beautiful.
