The Nikolaikirche is based on an Italian model - St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The church was built in the classicist style by Karl Friedrich Schinkel from 1830 onwards and completed by Ludwig Persius and August Stüler in 1850 with the imposing drum dome. The palmette corridor above the large columns offers visitors a fascinating view of the Old Market and the baroque old town.
