If there’s one climb that defines cycling on the Costa Blanca, it’s Coll de Rates. Starting from the village of Parcent, this legendary ascent has become a must-ride for cyclists from around the world — from weekend warriors to Tour de France champions. The climb is just under 7 km long, with an average gradient of around 5%, making it both accessible and rhythmical. The road surface is excellent, the curves are elegant, and the views just keep getting better as you rise above the valley. This is no secret among the pros. Riders from Jumbo-Visma, INEOS, UAE Team Emirates and others regularly use Coll de Rates for winter training. Tadej Pogačar currently holds the Strava KOM, which says a lot about the kind of names that have tested themselves here. On clear days, the view from the top is simply breathtaking — stretching all the way across the coastline, and if you’re lucky, even Ibiza shimmers faintly on the horizon. There’s a café at the summit (seasonal), and the descent toward Tarbena or Castell de Castells is just as rewarding. With its mix of scenery, steady gradients and cycling history, Coll de Rates is one of the most climbed — and most loved — ascents in the world. If you ride only one climb in the region, make it this one.

https://www.covatalladadenia.com/en/ The Cova Tallada is a natural jewel on the Costa Blanca. It is a cave at sea level that offers one of the most unforgettable views of nature. The spectacular cave, created by man in the XII-XIV centuries, makes this place a human masterpiece. In addition, the natural pool at the foot of the cave and the incredible arches make this place a must-see for everyone.

Good hiking boots with ankle protection, enough water. Small section where there is some climbing (easy)

When the water level is high - especially at high tide - the cave cannot be entered. Unfortunately 😕 The cave is in the rock, but above it there is more or less solid rubble that could fall down - so be careful 🤕 The route to the cave and the cave are in a nature reserve, registration is required 🙂

Perhaps not the most beautiful, but certainly the most famous climb in the region. The climb is beautiful but is especially popular because it is perfect for the pros to test in terms of length and gradient. From Parcent up, the climb is about 6.5 km with an average gradient of just over 5% (and no more than 8% on the steepest parts). Those who have breath left can enjoy beautiful views along the way 😁

Nowadays they are actually just monuments to a long tradition of craftsmanship: the heavy millstones were moved solely using the power of the wind as driving energy and, for example, grains were ground into flour (grain mills) or oil was pressed from olive fruits (oil mills). Sometimes - although rarely - the windmills also had the function of a pumping station and transported water to a higher level. But Miguel de CERVANTES (1547 to 1616) also set a literary monument to the technical monument of the Molinos: the most famous figure of the author, who is considered the national poet of Spain and whose work can certainly be valued as world literature: “Don QUIXOTE”, also known as “Knight “of the sad figure” and always accompanied by his loyal squire Sancho Panza, in one of the fictional stories he fights a - of course hopeless - battle against windmills in which he believes he recognizes four-armed giants.

The Coll de Rates is a hill between the Ferrer mountains and the Carrascar de Parcent mountain range, dividing the Valencian regions of Marina Alta and Marina Baja. The hill is located at 628 meters high and the CV-715 road runs through it, linking Benidorm with Gandía passing through Pego.

Only the first part up from the harbor is a bit strenuous. The rest is promenade with plenty of views. If you only want to visit the mills briefly, there is a small parking lot. From the mills down to Javea there are 3 options. One is marked, the others are not.

A very beautiful route with well-maintained paths, a pleasant, flat stage with no difficulty, highly recommended! The old railway line between Dénia and Gandia, once part of the historic Carcaixent–Dénia line, is now partially accessible as the Vía Verde (Greenway). The section from Dénia to El Verger runs approximately six kilometers in a straight line through orange groves, fields, and over small streams. The route is completely flat and therefore ideal for cycling. The expansive views are particularly charming: on the one hand, the mountains of the hinterland, on the other, the nearby dunes and the Mediterranean Sea. Those who continue north can reach Oliva and Gandia via the Marjal de Pego-Oliva Nature Park and small country roads. There, rice fields, wetlands with herons, and canals alternate, as well as places like the Muntanyeta Verda and the Font Salada spring. The result is a scenically diverse cycle tour of around forty kilometers, connecting the coast, nature park and agricultural landscape – from the port city of Dénia to historic Gandia.

Very narrow and uneven path along hillside, with steep drop to sea on one side, and many trip and fall hazards. Steep steps down in places with no hand holds, and rock scrambles in others, with knotted ropes and chains to assist.
