Stop by the Muntelier campsite, nice bistro right on the water

A little hidden away is a harbor pub.

Very nice. There are often dogs out walking.

We started the walk from the Salavaux village hall and followed the Broye towards the lake. Then we joined the edge of the lake to follow it for one or two kilometers and ended up returning by the Vita trail. A great walk that we like to do out of season.

Murten Castle dates back to the time of Count Peter II of Savoy (1255). Under the portal from 1516, which was rebuilt several times and in its current form dates from 1755, there was a cistern that is now only marked in the paving. The large, square tower, the so-called keep or "Luegisland", was used by Adrian von Bubenberg to monitor the events during the battle. While the castle was previously the residence of the mayors or was used as a hospital, barracks and prison, it is now the seat of the senior office of the Fribourg lake district. The church tower of Saint-Etienne was once an integral part of the fortifications. Easily recognizable by its solid construction and the loopholes on the sides. In the tower passage there is an interesting information board stating that Wolfgang Amadé Mozart and his family stopped in Moudon in 1766 on their journey through Switzerland.

Again and again, shallow cascades tame the flowing Broye, creating swirling photogenic moments. At low tide, pretty stone banks appear, which are used by birds, amphibians and humans alike.
