The Ludewig Basin in Rostock's city harbor is getting a new 180-meter-long promenade. Where concrete remains and wild growth currently dominate the scene, in just 18 months people will be able to stroll and enjoy the view of the Warnow. Dr. Chris Müller, Senator for Finance, Administration and Order of the Hanseatic City of Rostock, is delighted: "The area of the Ludewig Basin was for a long time unsightly wasteland that marked the eastern end of the city harbor for many locals and guests. The new promenade will now close this gap. In this way, a very attractive new piece of waterfront is being created that Rostock residents and tourists alike will surely soon discover for themselves." The city harbor on the banks of the Warnow with its museum and sailing harbor is a popular promenade with restaurants, shops and large warehouses. All cargo handling was concentrated here until the seaport opened in 1960. The best view of the city harbor can be seen from Kanonsberg near the Fischerbastion. This used to be a strategically important defense point for the harbor entrance. Three old cannons are a reminder of this. The wooden treadle crane from the 18th century and the bridge crane from the 1950s are testaments to the handling technology of days gone by. In summer you can take a leisurely stroll here and end the day in the restaurants and bars. In the evenings the city harbor is a popular meeting place for young and old.

Really a nice bike path from the electric ferry to the Vorpommernbrücke. A beautiful view of Rostock with all its sights.
