Located near the town of Cuenca that shares its name, the dam was inaugurated in 1958. It stands 78.10 meters high and has a water storage capacity of 1,638 hm³ across an area of 8,194 hectares. Its waters flow through, among other towns, Buendía, Alcocer, Alcohujate, and Villalba del Rey. From the dam, one can access the route to the Hermitage of Our Lady of the Forsaken, a favorite spot well worth visiting.

This time we went down to the River through the Presa tunnel.

The Mirador de la Cruz de Los Borrachos has an interesting legend. According to locals, many years ago, a group of good friends gathered at this place to enjoy the panoramic views. Some asked for love, others for wealth, and some simply desired health and happiness. The traveler smiled and warned them that the wishes had to be sincere and disinterested. Legend says that, since then, those who visit the Mirador de la Cruz de Los Borrachos and touch the cross with a pure heart, see their wishes fulfilled. Some claim to have experienced significant changes in their lives after visiting this place. So if you ever find yourself there, don't hesitate to touch the cross and make a wish. The Mirador de la Cruz de Los Borrachos is a place that offers spectacular views in the Buendía region, Castilla-La Mancha. Here, from an elevated position, you can enjoy the beauty of the Guadiela River canyon and the Sierra de Santa Cruz. The cross at the top of Cerro de los Borrachos is also a highlight at this viewpoint. The Cruz de los Borrachos is on a small hill on the other side of the Guadiela River reservoir, but it can be seen very well from here.

The Embalse Dam and the entire area is very touristy, suitable for quiet hiking.

The castle of Zorita de los Canes stands on a hill on one of the banks of the Tagus River. It is a fortification of Arab origin built in the 9th century.
