The Mirador de Aldehuela is one of Ronda's most famous viewpoints, located near the Puente Nuevo. From here, you have a spectacular panorama of the deep El Tajo gorge, the bridge, and the surrounding landscape of mountains and valleys. It is named after the architect José Martín de Aldehuela, who completed the Puente Nuevo in the 18th century. 👉 A perfect spot for photos, especially at sunset!

The origins of this ceramic lie in a work of art by local ceramicists: a map of Ronda. During the Romantic Ronda conference in 2013, which coincided with the sixth congress on the city's history, the idea arose to add quotes from travelers and writers. In this way, Ronda was depicted not only in images but also in the words of the romantic visitors who have admired the city throughout the centuries.

In the Plaza de Toros stands this impressive statue honoring the bull – the symbol of Ronda's rich bullfighting tradition. The plaque calls it the "pillar of the city's festival, culture, and history."

Magnificent place 🍻

In the 19th century, Ronda attracted many romantic travelers, including writers, artists, and adventurers, who were captivated by the picturesque landscape and the city's authentic atmosphere. These travelers helped establish Ronda's reputation as a romantic destination. Today, the Ruta de los Viajeros Románticos (Romantic Travelers' Route) commemorates their journeys, and several monuments throughout the city honor their legacy, including the Mirador de los Viajeros Románticos (Romantic Travelers' Viewpoint), a viewpoint overlooking the city and its history. A particular highlight is the Ronda Romántica, an annual festival held in the Alameda del Tajo from May 30 to June 1, 2025. The festival celebrates the Romantic era with historical reenactments, music, dance, and gastronomy. Additionally, the historic route between Gibraltar and Ronda is being restored to preserve the cultural and touristic value of this travel connection.

The Placa a los Viajeros Románticos is a beautiful mural on Calle Armiñán 17 in Ronda. This painting is a tribute to the romantic travelers who passed through Ronda in the 19th and 20th centuries and were impressed by the city's charm and beauty. The painting consists of colorful azulejos that show quotes and memories from these travelers.

Ronda literally sits perched on the steep cliffs and seems almost interwoven with the landscape. On the paths below the town, Ronda reveals itself as a spectacularly situated collection of whitewashed buildings perched on a high plateau. The view of Ronda is breathtaking and one of the most impressive scenes in Andalusia.

As we drive through the city of Ronda, we can see, near the famous Puente Nuevo, located under the so-called Tajo de Ronda, on one of the external walls of the Exhibition and Congress Palace, a large ceramic tile with the "title" Ronda for Romantic Travellers. The history of this ceramic begins with the exhibition of a map of Ronda made by local ceramicists. Based on this ceramic plan and following the celebration of the first conference on the "Romantic Ronda" in 2013, which coincided with the sixth congress on the history of Ronda, that year dedicated to Romanticism, it was decided to include sentences and thoughts of the writers that refer to Ronda and that had been written down by some Romantic travellers throughout history.
