I quite often cycle this route in the dark and it’s nice seeing Dundee lit up.

Try the harbour cafe, excellent cake and coffee. Open every day and run by volunteers.

Dont be put off by the modern concrete exterior of the V&A. Its very nice inside and worth a visit.

The V&A Dundee is the first design museum in Scotland and the first Victoria and Albert Museum outside London. It is also the first building in the United Kingdom designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed on Tuesdays from November to March. Admission is free. Steep steady climb so take your time

Across the road from The Tavern pub is a bench on a patch of green that overlooks the gorgeous St Andrew's Bay. On a clear day you can see for miles up and down the coastline and out to the North Sea.

The discovery is a great attraction, and the ship can be boarded and explored. Right next to the V&A which often has free exhibits. The waterfront is a good place for a walk.

Definitely a very nice waypoint on the cycle route that's worth a pause for that photo.

The HMS Unicorn is literally a unique ship: It is the most completely original ship of that era in the entire world and being built in 1824 the third oldest in the world still afloat. Moreover, it is Scotland's only preserved warship. You can visit the historic ship and explore all four decks and learn more about the life on board a 19th century Frigate. The V&A is a magnificent building that showcases the best of Scottish design, and the RRS Discovery is a ship that was built in 1901 for scientific purposes in the Polar regions. It went on its first expedition between 1901 and 1904 to Antarctica, and now stands in the Firth of Ray for visitors to enjoy its grandeur.

The Tay Road Bridge was built between 1963 & 1966. It's 2250m in length and spans the Firth of Tay between Dundee and Newport-on-Tay. You get great views of the bridge and across the estuary from the cycle path and roads that run along the shore.

Visit the Dundee Cycle Hub for Coffee Cake/Food just along from the V&A at the urban beach.

A good spot to watch the small boats coming in and out. Decent cafe and pub options too.

Auchterhouse Hill is the name of the hill north of the road. It's an ancient hill fort and at 426m the second highest point in the Sidlaw Range. You can't ride a road bike to the top though (or if you do it won't be good for your wheels). On the road you get to the climb above Newton of Pitpointie and about 230m. The views north to the hill are good as are the views south down to Dundee and the Firth of Tay.

Take a break from your ride and have a look at RRS Discovery. She was explorer Captain Scott's ship but also undertook many amazing adventures after his demise. The museum has lots of information and the ship itself is awesome to see. She was made in Dundee. Open every day but shorter opening hours over the winter. There is an entry fee if you want to go inside.

Great ship. Well worth a visit.
