Today's LVR Industrial Museum dates back to the cotton spinning mill that Friedrich Engels Sr. built here in 1837 together with his English partner. The Ermen & Engels cotton spinning mill, which was economically operated using the water power of the Agger River, closed its operations in 1979. At the initiative of three Cologne architects, the factory was listed as a historical monument in 1981, thus saving it from demolition. In 1987, the Rhineland Industrial Museum established its second branch here, focusing on the industrialization of the Bergisches Land region. In addition to the museum, the Engelskirchen town hall is also located in the complex.

The Catholic parish church of St. Severin on Burgstrasse is worth seeing. Its Romanesque west tower, built of rubble masonry as early as the 12th century, is also worth a detour to the Protestant village church, dating from 1683.
