A truly impressive tower. It was actually a minaret before being converted into a bell tower after the Christian reconquest of Spain.

The monument "Nacimiento de Un Hombre Nuevo" honors the famous seafarer CHRISTOPH COLUMBUS (born around 1451, died 1506). His great voyages of discovery, which have made him famous to this day - from the European mainland across the Atlantic to the west, searching for the sea route to India - were undertaken on behalf of the Spanish crown, but he was originally from Genoa (Italy). The name of the huge double continent that he discovered in 1492 (without even knowing it) was borrowed from another explorer: his contemporary AMERIGO VESPUCCI became the namesake for America.

This former minaret serves as the church tower of the cathedral. From the top you have a beautiful view of the cathedral and the Real Alcazar. Strange is its staircase that is not really one, it is a steeply sloping path, numbered from 1 to 34. Unfortunately, you can only visit the Giralda in combination with the cathedral. So you have to queue there first before you can visit the Giralda.

La Girada wonderfully summarizes many centuries of history about its own physiognomy. The confluence of the different architectural styles that characterize it is a reflection of the cultures that inhabited Seville. The result, eclectic and unique, fascinates any traveler. The first section of the Giralda is in the Almohad style. The architects Ibn Basso and Alí de Gomara were the architects of this minaret built for the city's great mosque. An earthquake in 1356 caused the four bronze spheres that crowned the tower to fall. The body of bells is Renaissance style, and was designed by Hernán Ruiz in the 16th century. At its peak, 104 meters high, you can spot a very special weather vane: the Giraldillo, another symbol of Seville.
