The Chair of Philip II is a group of platforms and seats carved in granite. According to tradition, Philip II used this site as an observatory during the construction of the Monastery of El Escorial. However, some theories suggest that it could be an ancient Vetton altar. This site offers spectacular views of the Monastery of El Escorial and its surroundings, including the La Herrería forest. The route to reach the Chair of Philip II is quite accessible and can be done in approximately one hour from the San Lorenzo de El Escorial Tourist Office.

2월 12, 2025, Villanueva de la Cañada
Villanueva de la Cañada was known by the name of Despernada. By contraction of the word, it was later called La Espernada. There are several legends about this name: one of them refers to a stone statue, mutilated by passers-by, which existed in ancient times on the site where the town is built today, and around which the first houses were built. This version is documented in the Topographic Relations of Philip II (1578), the original of which is preserved in the Library of the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Today, Villanueva de la Cañada is a modern town, which houses the University Alfonso X El Sabio (UAX) and in its vicinity is the water park: Aquópolis.
