The Church of Santa María de la Antigua, known among the people of Valladolid as ‘La Antigua’, boasts of being one of the jewels of Romanesque architecture in Castile and León thanks to its slender tower, which is more than 55 metres high. It is the only element from the 13th century, along with the north portico, as the rest of the temple is in Gothic style, already from the 14th century.

The Plaza Mayor was created when the Royal House of Castile moved its seat to Valladolid. It is the model for all similar squares with the same name that exist in many cities in Spain and Latin America
