Always better on weekends and during off-peak hours during the week because there's a lot of traffic.

Several pleasant breakfast bars, a good option for bikers or cyclists, and the old iron bridge over the Jarama is beautiful...

Villanueva de la Cañada was known by the name of Despernada. By contraction of the word, it was later called La Espernada. There are several legends about this name: one of them refers to a stone statue, mutilated by passers-by, which existed in ancient times on the site where the town is built today, and around which the first houses were built. This version is documented in the Topographic Relations of Philip II (1578), the original of which is preserved in the Library of the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Today, Villanueva de la Cañada is a modern town, which houses the University Alfonso X El Sabio (UAX) and in its vicinity is the water park: Aquópolis.

The square is very pretty, well maintained and clean. There are many terraces that are always lively and have very good food, perfect for a stop halfway out.

Short but very nice climb, both up and down. Avoid going during the week during school hours because there is a lot of traffic with parents picking up children. Ideal early weekend.
