Where do you cross over to Morocco?

The first waterwheel in this place dates back to the 15th century and was made of wood. The current waterwheel, made of metal, was installed in 1956 and is 11 metres in diameter. The waterwheel is used to raise water from the Acequia Mayor Alquibla to the Acequia del Turbedal, allowing the irrigation of the lands in the upper area of Alcantarilla. The museum, opened in 1967, shows the ethnology of the Huerta de Murcia and is focused on various axes such as agriculture, anthropology and water culture.

Beautiful view of the Segura River as it passes through Cieza from the Iron Bridge.

An irrigation system that distributes water to the orchard on the right bank of the Segura River. Its construction dates back almost a thousand years. Next to it you can visit the Huerta Museum and the Aqueduct Park. If you visit at night it also has lighting.

The reservoir Alfonso XIII or reservoir of Quípar covers an area of 216 hectares and is located 300 m. above sea level. It dams the water from the river Quípar that crosses the area in SW-NE direction. It can be considered one of the most important continental wetlands of the Region of Murcia, being home to a large number of aquatic birds. It was built in 1917 with the aim of avoiding the catastrophic consequences that the swellings of the river Quípar had for the Vega Alta of the Segura. It was inaugurated in the year 1918 by King Alfonso XIII. Sunset can give great scenery, see my photos.

The asphalt is sometimes really bad, but IMHO the landscape is worth driving here.
