Leisure activities For recreational activities, there are several campsites and a golf course at the dam, as well as a climbing forest since 2005. New Year's Eve runs and a triathlon are also offered. There are also two sandy beaches guarded by the German Life Saving Association (DLRG), as well as another bathing area in the northern part of the dam. Boats and watercraft are not permitted on the water with a few exceptions. In 2012, there were over 301,000 overnight stays around the dam, of which over 130,000 were in the holiday area in Dwergte. In addition, over 1.5 million day visitors were counted in 2007, generating a turnover of 36.9 million euros. The dam is connected to public transport via on-demand stops on two bus lines.
