Spectacular path but full of fallen trees

Cavas Pere Ventura was founded in 1992 as the headquarters of Pere Ventura Family Wine Estates. Pere Ventura is the founder of the cava cellars that bear his name in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia (Barcelona), dedicated to the production of sparkling wines under the auspices of the DO CAVA. It is one of the most select companies in the sector, synonymous with elegance, style and exclusivity. The Pere Ventura brand is different, original and unique and offers an inimitable image, which speaks for itself about the product and the values that inspire it: quality, elegance, distinction and exclusivity.

Canals & Munné is a small, family-run company dedicated to the production of medium and high quality wines and cavas since 1915, when Josep Canals Capellades, great-grandfather of the current winemaker Òscar Canals, started the activity. The house's coat of arms symbolises the water channels that carry cava and the towers, forming the union of the brand, together with the leaves and grapes of the vineyards. Josep Mª Canals Casanovas, son of the founder, together with Dolors Torres Munné, formed part of the 2nd generation of the cava. As a result of this union, Montserrat Canals Torres, the current manager, was born. Currently, Òscar Canals Medina is in charge of the winery as winemaker and Ivan M. Canals as commercial director. Francisco Medina Gutierrez is in charge of production. Recently, the 5th generation of the house was born; Òscar and Nil Canals Gramisel.

The Carles de Lavern wine cellars are located in Can Maristany, a farmhouse founded in 1826. Various varieties of grapes native to the Penedès are grown on its land. In 1910 it was remodelled, following a project by the civil engineer Euduard Maristany y Gubert, cousin of the owner of the estate, Pere Gerard Maristany y Oliver, landowner, politician and patron of a family enriched by the American wine and cava trade. Pere Gerard Maristany y Oliver owned estates in the Penedès and Maresme and was ennobled in 1912 by King Alfonso XII with the title of Count of Lavern. Located in the heart of the Penedès, surrounded by vineyards and in an absolutely peaceful setting, it is 5 km from Sant Sadurní, 8 km from Vilafranca del Penedès, 15 km from Vilanova i la Geltrú and Sitges, 40 km from Barcelona and 50 km from Tarragona. Cal Maristany has been completely remodelled and its cellars have been converted into banquet, celebration and convention rooms.

Good spot to take a breath

A magical place with wonderful views of the entire Penedés region and the coast, with the blue of the sea in the background. In my opinion, sunny winter days are the best to visit. You can get here by two alternative routes, both very beautiful and quiet: from Guardiola de Font-Rubí and from Sant Martí Sarroca.

The Can Suriol lime kiln is located in the municipality of Olivella, in the Garraf region (Barcelona). It is a circular structure that takes advantage of the slope of the mountain as one of the walls. These types of ovens were rented to groups of calciners who were in charge of extracting the stone, firing it and later selling it as is or in the form of lime. The process could take between a month and a month and a half. This oven operated between approximately 1930 and 1940.
