The beautiful 17th-century church was built on a mound after the great flood of 1634. Two previous buildings, whose locations are no longer known, had fallen victim to the storm surges of 1362 and 1634 and were swept away. During the second great flood, the entire pastor's family, along with 300-400 other Ockholm residents, drowned; only the eldest son, who was already a student and had left home, survived. Between 1639 and 1641, Ockholm was re-dyked with the active support of the Danish King Christian IV. A new church was built. The king provided the building materials: he donated the stones from the Bordelum "castle," the manor "Fruu Mettenhof" of Meta von Ahlefeld in Bordelum-Uphusum, which had been destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. The tracks from Beltringharder Koog to Neuwarft are an interesting aspect of the infrastructure in the Nordstrand region. These tracks belong to a former lorry railway line that was originally used to transport building materials and to support coastal protection measures. During the construction of the Beltringharder Koog in the 1980s, these tracks were used to transport earth and building materials to facilitate dike construction. The Beltringharder Koog itself was created as part of a larger coastal protection project that required large amounts of earth and material to be moved. The lorry railway played an essential role in this. Today, the tracks are mostly disused, but some sections and remnants of the old railway line are still visible in the landscape, reminding us of the construction work at the time and the efforts to develop the Koog as a conservation and recreational area. Neuwarft is a small town on Nordstrand, and the connection between the Beltringharder Koog and Neuwarft via the old tracks shows the community's proximity to the coastal protection measures and their importance to the region. The rails and the associated infrastructure are no longer used for transport, but have been partially preserved as historical relics. They offer an insight into the history of land reclamation and coastal protection on the North Sea coast.

The Beltringharder Koog is located on the North Sea coast in the north of Schleswig-Holstein and is an impressive nature reserve that attracts nature lovers as well as cyclists and hikers. It is located west of Husum and northwest of the Nordstrand peninsula. The Koog was created in the 1980s by embanking and filling up land to serve as compensation for other coastal construction projects. Today the Beltringharder Koog is one of the most important protected areas for waders and water birds on the German North Sea coast. The North Sea at the Beltringharder Koog shows its typical side - with changing tides, wide mudflats and a rich bird population. The area is part of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you can experience the impressive diversity of the Wadden Sea, which is one of the most productive ecosystems in the world. The Beltringharder Koog offers numerous opportunities for bird watching. Especially in spring and autumn, when thousands of migratory birds rest in the mud and salt marshes, the Koog becomes a paradise for ornithologists and nature lovers. Species such as the shelduck, the dunlin and the bar-tailed godwit can be seen here regularly. Sea eagles and hen harriers can also be seen here occasionally, making the Beltringharder Koog a popular destination for bird watchers. For cyclists and hikers, there is a network of well-developed paths in the Koog that lead along the dikes and through the nature reserve. These paths offer spectacular views of the North Sea and the adjacent salt marshes. There are several viewpoints and observation huts along the route from which you can observe the flora and fauna undisturbed. The Beltringharder Koog is also an interesting place to learn more about coastal protection and the formation of polders on the North Sea coast. The landscape of the Koog impressively shows how man has shaped nature and the coastline over the centuries in order to gain land and protect himself from the forces of the North Sea.
