On relatively flat ground, the rock rises among the beech trees, like an ancient fortress with vertical walls. It is a formidable natural oppidum bristling with rampart rocks, overhanging patrol paths, watchtower peaks and a summit platform. Small secret passages open up, between the blocks and the vegetation, to climb to the sunny summit from where a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside can be seen.

Located in the town of Bricquebec, this superb castle was built between the 10th and 11th centuries. The exterior of the remains of the castle are freely accessible and are worth the detour!

A legacy of the 19th century, the parks and gardens of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin bear witness to the botanical wealth of the world thanks to the exotic varieties brought back at that time by sailors and travelers. Created in 1887 on the site of a former hermitage, the public garden of the delegated municipality of Cherbourg-Octeville offers passers-by a place of relaxation to enjoy the beauties of nature. Over time around the bandstand, the garden has been enriched with new species, an animal park, statues and water features, numerous children's games, and recently a rose garden which has several dozen rare species. Dogs are prohibited in the park.

This impressive peak towers 112 meters above the port city of Cherbourg-en-Contentin. At the top is a fort which now houses a Liberation Museum. The view of the city and the coastline is breathtaking.

The terrace on the perimeter wall offers a beautiful view* of the city, the port buildings, the arsenal and the vast expanse of water (more than 1500 ha) of the Cherbourg roadstead.

From the avenue Etienne-Lecarpentier, a winding road leads to a fortress on top of the Montagne du Roule (112m). "Roule" is an old word for "grès" (sandstone). The Germans, who had entrenched themselves in the fort, surrendered in June 1944 after fierce resistance.
