Moirax is located on top of a hill, a few kilometers south of Agen and the Garonne. A medieval village dominated by the Cluniac Priory from the 11th century. A jewel of Romanesque art, the imposing Notre-Dame church remaining from the Priory is a real architectural marvel. It has been perfectly restored and has been listed as a historical monument since 1846.

This church was a milestone on the way to Santiago de Compostela and a stopover for pilgrims. The land on which it stands was donated by the Viscount of Bruilhois in 1049. Believing that he had failed during his life as a warrior, he wanted to try to save his soul by donating of this land.

This church was built between the 10th and 11th centuries. Part of the original building remains. You will see small square stones that would have been taken from ancient Gallo-Roman villas to build the church. This church was unique because of its twisted bell tower.
