The Cathedral of Our Lady, a veritable encyclopedia of medieval architecture, was built between 1180 and 1439. A testament to late Romanesque architecture in the early stages of its construction (choir and transept), it blends French and Germanic Gothic styles from the 13th century onward. The bold west façade and its stone spire testify to the skill of the stonemasons of the Strasbourg stonemasons' lodge. The 142-meter-high spire is a technical feat unmatched until the 19th century. The cathedral houses a remarkable astronomical clock, built between 1571 and 1574.
