The fortified town, originally called "Boutae" - then "Annecy-le-Neuf" before being called "Alt-Annecy" - boasts one of the most ancient pasts, including important remains of "sea villages" from the Neolithic period (-4000). B.C.). In the Middle Ages, many craftsmen settled on the banks of the Thiou River and took advantage of its motive power. Feudal lords and the Count of Geneva established themselves in Annecy on both sides.
