The Church of St. Christopher was designed by the engineer Philippe Mareschal and built from 1727 to replace the Saint-Denis Collegiate Church. It opened for worship in 1750. Its façade, in the classical style with superimposed Doric and Ionic colonnades, is decorated with a triangular pediment bearing the king's coat of arms and religious motifs. This ornamentation was partially altered after the siege of 1870-1871. The towers were built between 1784 and 1788 (north tower) and in 1845 (south tower). The large organ is the work of the postman J.-C. Valtrin and has been restored and modified several times, notably in 1971 by François and Joseph Calinet and Kurt Schwenkedel. It was declared a historic monument by decree of 28 January 1930, erected as a basilica in 1952, and became a cathedral in 1979 following the creation of the Diocese of Belfort-Montbéliard.

The name of Saint-CHRISTOPHE, to whom this cathedral (bishop's church) in Belfort is dedicated, means "Christ-bearer". According to the legend of the saint, he was a gigantic man and carried people across a river. One day a small child called to him and he carried it on his shoulders to the other bank. Amazingly, the child became heavier and he said he felt as if the weight of the whole world was on his shoulders. Then the child revealed himself to him as Jesus Christ, Savior and Redeemer of the world.

Named after General Sénarmont, Fort Bessoncourt was built between 1883 and 1886 to close the roads to Colmar and Basel and the railway to Mulhouse, and to support the forts of Roppe and Vézelois. It is a large pentagonal limestone structure, built for approximately 650 men and 30 artillery pieces. It is typical of forts dating from the 1880s, in which the long-range artillery and close defense were grouped on the rampart bordering the ditch, while the infantry was positioned above the caponiers of the escarpment and on the roof of the central barracks. Opening hours: Visit at 3 p.m. on Sundays from May to September

Classic in style with architectural references to antiquity, it dominates and illuminates the city's Place d'Armes with its pink sandstone stones extracted from a nearby quarry. Protected as a historical monument since 1930, the church was elevated to basilica status in 1952 and became a cathedral in 1979, when the diocese of Belfort-Montbéliard was created.

Fort de la Justice (also known as Fort Lecourbe) is part of the entrenched camp of Belfort. It was built in 1826 at the gates of the city, in order to accommodate around twenty artillery pieces in the open air. This bastioned fort, roughly rectangular, could accommodate about 300 men. During the Second World War, the garrison of Fort de la Justice resisted the enemy for 9 hours, causing 20 deaths. A commemorative plaque pays tribute to them. The fort is now abandoned; it is traversed by popular hiking trails.

Named after General Senarmont, Fort Bessoncourt was erected between 1883 and 1886 to block the roads to Colmar and Basel and the Mulhouse railway line, and to cover the forts of Roppe and Vézelois. It is a large limestone masonry fort, pentagonal in plan, designed for about 650 men and about 30 artillery pieces. It is representative of the forts of the 1880s, in which the artillery for distant action and that for close defense were assembled on the rampart bordering the ditch, while the infantry took up position above the caponiers and on the roof of the central barracks. But shortly after its construction, it is already outdated and needs modernization. It is one of the few forts in the square to have constantly kept pace with technical progress: in 1888, a concrete shell was poured over a third of its central barracks: in 1894-1895, most of its artillery being dispersed in surrounding batteries, it became an infantry support point and underwent a complete overhaul. In 1908-1909, two turrets for 75 guns and two machine gun turrets were installed. During the First World War, the fort served as a hospital, but from 1917, fortification work resumed with the digging of deeply buried rooms and galleries connecting the fort with the outside.

The imposing citadel is a fortress in the French city of Belfort, built according to plans by Vauban in 1687, which played a very important role in the siege of Belfort (1870 - 1871). In addition to the very well-preserved parts of the fortifications, the "Porte de Brisach" gate, the lion of Belfort (the city's landmark) and some protective moats, the citadel is always worth a visit.
