The Citadel of Belfort is a historically complex building, reflecting five centuries of fortifications. It was built after the conquest of the city in 1687, replacing a medieval castle that previously stood on this rocky outcrop.

The Lion is the symbol of the city of Belfort. All Belfort residents are proud of this pink sandstone colossus. The Citadel and the Lion of Belfort were voted the French people's favorite monument in 2020.

The Port fluvial de Dannemarie is no ordinary marina – it’s an unexpected oasis along the canal, where boats bob gently and herons keep watch. For cyclists, it feels like a little refuge: a place to take a break from the rhythm of your pedals and take on the rhythm of the water. Here you can refill your water bottle, stretch your legs on a bench in the shade or a little further away at the restaurant, or just watch the sun play on the surface of the canal.

The Lion of Belfort is 11 meters high and 22 meters long and is the tallest stone monument in the country. It is best seen from the observation terrace, which is only open during the day. Admission costs €1 (as of 10/2024). The investment is worth it 👍.

The Porte d'Alsace boating lodge is located near Dannemarie, a central town with all the necessary shops. The lodge can accommodate around fifty boats of all sizes on three different pontoons. Drinking water and electricity are available to boaters (according to the terms and conditions defined by the local authority). A laundromat, restrooms equipped with showers, playgrounds, green spaces, and picnic tables are available to boaters and their guests.
