The church, like many churches, offers a mixture of many different styles: Romanesque in the towers and transept, Gothic in the choir and Renaissance on the facade.

The fountain "La Fontaine Saint-Jean" was built in 1864 thanks to donations from Henri Lainville. The design comes from Baptiste Klagmann, a sculptor and goldsmith.

The riverside path on the Ile Saint Etienne is very picturesque, but unfortunately quite short. There are longer paths on the opposite side, the Promenade de Vaux.

The church was built in Romanesque style from 1031 onwards. This includes the two towers, the transept and the nave. From the 12th century onwards, the choir was added in the Gothic style and the facade was restored in the 16th century in the Renaissance style. Particularly noteworthy is the "Diptych of Melun", which was painted by Jean Fouquet around 1450. It is also interesting that the church is surrounded on three sides by the Melun prison.
