The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes was built in the late 19th century from white-painted brick. The roof is slate. On Palm Sunday and on August 15th for the Feast of the Assumption, a procession passed through the village. It was led by the municipal band and followed by the clergy and faithful of Our Lady of Lourdes. They stopped there for the blessing of the palms and the presentation of the statue of the Virgin Mary. This practice ended in the 1980s. It was from Steenvoorde that the Beeldenstorm spread rapidly throughout the Netherlands. In the church, you can still see a bell from the Laurentius Monastery. The Beeldenstorm began here with the shattering of all the statues and furnishings of this monastery. No trace remains of the monastery itself, located a few kilometers from Steenvoorde. Only a place name, Gallicized to Saint-Laurent, now a rest stop along the Lille-Dunkirk motorway, remains as a reminder. The church itself has a turbulent history. After falling victim to the Beeldenstorm in 1566, it burned down in 1576, was destroyed by the French in 1644, and was rebuilt in late Gothic style between 1660 and 1664. The tower dates from 1712, and the brick spire was built in 1890 and 1891. In May 1940, the church was again severely damaged. In 1950 it was restored.

It was frequently in the news in the summer of 2025, when the Tour de France passed right here. The shop is run by Alain Vasseur, Sylvain's brother and Cédric's father, both former cyclists. The highlight of Alain's career was a stage win in the 1970 Tour. A true cycling family, indeed.

Le Moulin de la Roome is a small village. In Dutch 'rooome' means room of cows in the meadow (the mill is located in the middle of a meadow landscape). The restaurant is in fact an old restored farm, next to the mill de la Roome. Rustic interior, simple, but stylish. In the hall of the restaurant is explained how the mill was reconstructed. You can visit the mill on Sunday from 15:30 to 17:30 (€2 for adults, €1.5 for children). Traditional regional dishes.

The Kasselberg (French: Mont Cassel) is a witness hill in the French Westhoek, in the French department of Noord. The hill is the highest in the Westhoek with 176 meters. The city of Kassel is located on top of the hill. The Kasselberg is part of the so-called central hill ridge in the West Flemish Hills, which also consists of the Watenberg, Wouwenberg, Katsberg, Boeschepeberg, Kokereelberg, Zwarteberg, Vidaigneberg, Baneberg, Rodeberg, Sulferberg, Goeberg, Scherpenberg, Monteberg, Kemmelberg and Letteberg. To the south of this hill ridge is the catchment area of the Leie, to the north of this hill ridge is the catchment area of the IJzer.

La Porte de Bergues is one of the historic city gates of Cassel, located in the province of Nord. This gate is part of the defensive wall of Cassel and is an important historical monument.
