Although the abbey was founded in the 7th century, the current church was not built until the late 11th and early 12th centuries, with a Saintonge Romanesque-style façade. It is shaped like a Latin cross. It consists of a five-bay nave with aisles 39 meters long, a transept with a large apse on each arm, and a polygonal apse 15.30 meters high. The monk Dom Bedos de Celles built its organ in 1750, now considered a masterpiece. It was restored in 1995 by organ builder Pascal Quoirin.
