Bucolic walk along a river with celadon water. Perfect for a family, with a little girl of 3.5 years old for whom it was the first walk. We are never far from civilization (railway, highway nearby), and yet we immediately escape into this natural setting.

Yvoire is one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. Its medieval heritage, its label as a flowery town, and its privileged position on the banks of Lake Geneva have something to do with it. Take the time to stroll through its historic center and get lost on the trails of the many natural spaces of this town in the Thonon-les-Bains agglomeration.

The Col de Cou, at an altitude of 1,117 metres, takes you from the Vallée Verte to the Côte-en-Chablais region. Several roads lead there, which allows you to train by varying the routes and difficulties. The hardest climb is the one on the western slope from Fessy, with seven kilometres at an average of 7.5%.

Between the Pointe de Targaillan to the south and the Aiguille to the north, the Col de Cou is the crossing point between the Vallée Verte to the west and the Côte-en-Chablais region to the east, from where it is accessible from Draillant and Fessy. According to tradition, Saint Pancratius, to whom this church in Yvoire is dedicated, was publicly executed at the end of the 3rd / beginning of the 4th century under Emperor Diocletian because of his Christian faith. The body of the martyr was buried on the Roman Via Aurelia - in the catacombs later named after him - under today's "San Pancrazio" church. The memorial day of Saint Pancratius is on May 12, he is one of the three so-called "Ice Saints" in popular piety, along with Servatius and Bonifatius (in some areas the "Cold Sophie" is added a day later).

From 1306, Count Amédéé V the Great used Yvoire's strategic position as a sentry post between the large and small lakes to build powerful fortifications. For half a century, the city played an important military role, even earning its residents exemption from toll payments in 1324. Later, between 1536 and 1591, when the whole region of Bern was occupied, the city lost its military status and the city wall ring was dismantled. The castle was also burned down and remained without a roof for 350 years. For a long time, the village remained meaningless and the militarily important complex turned into a simple farming and fishing village. Due to the emerging tourism, a new development only started in 1950. In 1959 the village received the national flower award for the first time (Wikipedia).
