This is where the first Swiss troops landed on June 1, 1814 after the departure of the French soldiers. For 15 years, Geneva had been in French hands; it would enter the Swiss Confederation, a process that was completed on May 19, 1815. Far from a modest double row of stilts of 1814, the Port-Noir can now accommodate a total of just over 400 boats. The private SNG port adjacent to the Port-Noir has 1,000 mooring places.
