The cemetery takes its name from the Jesuit priest Père de la Chaise, Louis XIV's confessor. The king got along so well with his fun-loving pastor that one day he donated this piece of land to him. The city later acquired it to create a cemetery in the wooded area, which became the city's most famous. Free maps of the cemetery are distributed at the entrance. Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison, Laurent Fignon, Georges Moustaki—who is buried where, in which graveyard. The map makes the search much easier.
