Because of the good relations with Egypt, Mehemet Ali, the viceroy of Egypt, presented them with the 3,000-year-old obelisk from Luxor. Its four sides depict the deeds of Ramesses II, dating back to the 13th century BC. King Louis-Philippe, in gratitude for the obelisk, presented Mehemet Ali with a clock, which now stands in the courtyard of the Mohammed Ali Mosque in Cairo. The 23-meter-high, 230-ton colossus was a significant undertaking to bring to France. This is why it is proudly inscribed on the obelisk's pedestal. And rightly so, since we are, of course, talking about 1836. It's a good thing, by the way, that French people generally can't read hieroglyphs, otherwise it would never have been erected. The deeds of Ramesses II, which are described on the Obelisk, in some cases concern his sexual acts and, according to ‘the needle’ (The Obelisk), these were not insignificant.

Chez Gaston is a super cozy spot in Paris where you immediately feel welcome. The brunch is worth it: you can choose from sweet and savory dishes like pancakes with Nutella and bananas, avocado toast with eggs, or crispy chicken. The hot drinks (flat white, matcha latte, etc.) are spot-on, and the freshly squeezed juices are a nice bonus. What I really loved: everything is relaxed, the atmosphere is friendly, and you can feel the attention to quality (there's even something gluten-free on the menu). Perfect for a lazy morning with friends or just to unwind.

Really cool light atmosphere in the evening - could almost be a Magritte.

Characteristics of Place de la République: Central monument: The square is dominated by a monumental statue of the French Republic, which is the focal point of the space. The statue represents Marianne, symbol of the French Republic, surrounded by allegorical figures representing Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. This monument, inaugurated in 1883, is a tribute to the Third Republic and is surrounded by several ponds and sculptures. Architecture and Urban Planning: Place de la République is characterized by its size and radial layout. It is also a gathering place for public events, demonstrations, parties, and celebrations. Green Spaces: The square is lined with gardens and green spaces, providing a place to relax in the heart of the city. The landscaping around the monument adds to the square's appeal as a meeting and resting space. Events and Activities: Place de la République is often the site of political and social demonstrations, festivals, markets, and cultural events. Its size and importance make it a popular place for large gatherings. Proximity to Attractions: The square is located near several Parisian attractions, such as the Canal Saint-Martin, the Marais, and the lively Belleville district. It is an ideal starting point for exploring these vibrant parts of the city.

The Palais Bourbon (French: Palais Bourbon) is a historic building located on the left bank of the River Seine in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.
