An ancient Fortified House from the end of the Middle Ages (15th century), the Grosse Maison is a notable architectural ensemble presenting mainly Renaissance characteristics with a magnificent dovecote from 1658, mullioned windows and basement cellars, spread over two levels. The Boucle de la Moselle is an 85-kilometre cycle route that connects Nancy, Liverdun, Toul and Neuves-Maisons. In Liverdun, you will find a campsite on the banks of the Moselle, under the imposing fortress that dominates the area. Don't forget to try the famous madeleines, the town's speciality!

The unique recipe for these madeleines was invented in Liverdun in the 20th century by the baker Joseph Rouvenacht and his chef Marcel Chenel. They take advantage of the attraction of the Moselle and its Sunday walks and decide to make their own madeleines. These juicy little sweets also become famous in Paris in 1927 thanks to the Lorraine Gastronomic Day. After the war, it was André and Pierre Chenel, Marcel's sons, who took over the torch, which in turn was taken over by Serge, André's son, in 1985. This family tradition will be passed on from Serge Chenel to Vincent Ferry (former director of Clair de Lorraine), who will continue this tradition with the manufacturing secrets transmitted by the Chenel family. Since then, Madeleines from Liverdun have lost none of their original taste. It's still the same inimitable recipe, kept secret since the 1920s, that has made it successful. Discover or discover their characteristic shape and their incomparable taste : natural, mirabelle plum, bergamot, sour cherries,... which will delight your palate on all occasions. Liverdun madeleines have been around for almost a century true representatives of Lorraine's culinary heritage, continuing a tradition of artisan biscuit making whose success is widely known. Today 15 to 20,000 madeleines are made every day.
