4월 21, 2025, Réserve naturelle de la vallée de la Savoureuse
A beautiful green paradise between the highway and the city. The birdsong even drowns out the highway noise.

A "chemin de halage", in German "treidelpfad", which runs alongside the waterway right next to the bed of the river or canal, was an indispensable part of the transport infrastructure in earlier times. Before ships could move using motor power, horses ran along the bank and pulled the ship against the current. This was called "treideln", and this is how the "treidelpfads" got their name, which has been passed down to this day. Where these paths directly on the bank have been preserved, they are often used by hikers and cyclists.

The church of Saint-Léger in Is-sur-Tille has an original silhouette due to its turbulent history. Built in the 14th century on the site of an older place of worship (as evidenced by the discovery of Merovingian sarcophagi in the 1960s), it has been rebuilt several times. Around 1420, it was surrounded by a wall with 9 towers to use it as a refuge from invasions. It was rebuilt in the 16th century and in 1620 the bell tower collapsed. The need to rebuild the tower quickly probably explains the unusual choice of location and the irregularity of the pediment on the façade. Further work took place in the 18th century. More recently, between 2007 and 2009, the church was rehabilitated and its external and internal appearance renovated. The bell tower is covered with glazed tiles typical of Burgundian architecture and houses three bells, the largest of which (baptized Louise) weighs 1802 kg. This reserve, classified since 2008, helps protect the main bed of the Savoureuse, a river which crosses Montbéliard and Belfort. It helps preserve wetlands and the many species that live there, ranging from birds to amphibians. So, you may see gray woodpeckers, black kites or even kingfishers.

Beautiful view of the Le Doubs river and the riparian vegetation. Riparian forest is the set of wooded, bushy and herbaceous formations present on the banks of a watercourse. The Doubs is a French and Swiss river, a sub-tributary of the Rhône by the Saône. He gave his name to the French department of Doubs. With a total length of 453 km, including 430 km on French territory, it constitutes the tenth French river by length and the fourth river after the Marne, the Lot and the Saône.

The foundation of the parish of Delle, whose patron saint is Saint Léger, probably dates back to the Carolingian period, but the primitive church no longer exists. The building was then radically modified in 1709 and the flood of September 1714 caused a lot of damage, especially to the bell tower, which had to be demolished. The building, completed in 1744 on the south side by an outer chapel dedicated to Saint Francis Xavier, was again largely destroyed by fire in 1857, which had to rebuild it almost entirely

A very nice cycle route between Mulhouse and Montbeliard. 50 km without "country road contact".
