Beautiful castle, listed as a historical monument since 1944, you can visit it for €9

This incredible stone citadel was erected in the 11th century. It was transformed into a prison in the 16th century. The most famous of its few prisoners was the Marquis de Sade! Here we have a beautiful view of the castle of Miolans, built on a rocky escarpment at an altitude of 550m. It thus dominates the Combe de Savoie. It has been listed as a historical monument since 1944 and notably served as a state prison between 1564 and 1792.

The castle of Miolans in the valley of Savoy, at the gates of the Maurienne and Tarentaise valleys, is part of a thematic itinerary of discoveries, Pierres-forts de Savoie.

Former castle-prison very well preserved, located below the Col d'Arclusaz, which is located above the Isère valley. Initially (at the beginning of the 12th century) only a fortified residence, the castle was gradually enlarged until the 15th century. The Marquis de Sade, in 1772, was a notable prisoner. Entrance to the castle is chargeable. There are documents in different languages, which give detailed information on the different sectors.
