Ruins with explanatory panels. A beautiful view of the Ain plain. A must-see!

This spot didn't impress me: "blue lake" is an exaggeration, it's a very small reservoir... lots of people on the banks too.

Superb trail!

The castle overlooks the Ain plain. A few benches are available for relaxing while admiring the view. It's possible to walk around the castle by continuing along the path past the entrance. It's accessible with a paid ticket, and opening hours vary depending on the season.

Smaller pond than lake..more green than blue. Average.

Attention dogs prohibited..

Blue Lake, as you can imagine, owes its name to the bright shades of blue that its water takes on. The bridge that spans the lake makes it look bigger than it is, but it is actually the dam that creates the lake on the Gardon River.

Allymes Castle is the only example of a medieval fortress in Bugey. Overlooking Ambérieu-en-Bugey, it is built on a mountain 650 meters above sea level. Its geographical location offers a breathtaking view of Savoyard Bresse and Dombes. As a strategic stronghold, it protected the entrance to Savoy, which was an independent state at the time.
