On this side of the village dominate the vineyards of Ménétru-le-Vignoble and Voiteur, which have established the reputation of the Château Chalon wine, the most famous wine of Jura. The viewpoint is reached via the north entrance of the village on Rue de la Roche.

Château-Chalon lies on average at 435m, about ten kilometers northeast of Lons-le-Saunier (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura, at the transition from the Bresse plain to the first Jura plateau, on a steep slope east of the Seille. The jump from the plain to the first Jura plateau is particularly pronounced here. While the edge is usually barely higher than 120m, at Château-Chalon it reaches almost 200m. It is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France (Plus beaux villages de France).
