Long under the benevolence of the Lordship of La Motte, Maumusson experienced a tormented period during the Revolution, because its inhabitants, faithful to their faith and to their king, joined the ranks of the Chouans in large numbers.

Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption is a very popular name, which indicates the patronage of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God, over this parish. Created completely pure by the grace of God, Mary could not experience the degradation of her body in death. It is popular tradition which, throughout the centuries, has pushed the Church to define “the Assumption of Mary” as a dogma in 1950. The imposing Riaillé church was rebuilt between 1841 and 1887. Historical notes mention more than 20 places of worship over the centuries of which very few traces remain.

The church was reopened in 2017 after a year of closure for essential safety work (consolidation of the vaults). At the beginning of the 17th century, the Bourdinière church had become too small and there was talk of rebuilding it. But the population of the town of Pannecé had become greater than that of Bourdinière, so much so that it was in the town that the current church was built to become the parish church in 1648.
