Dole was the capital of the Free County of Burgundy under Habsburg rule during the Middle Ages. For centuries, the city served as the seat of parliament and was home to a university. Over the centuries, the city was besieged several times and fought over in conflicts between France and Burgundy, experiencing periods of occupation. The city's inhabitants consistently offered considerable resistance, forcing France to either withdraw or return possession of the city to the Burgundians by treaty. A stroll through the old town reveals numerous picturesque Renaissance buildings.

The Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame in Dole dominates the old town with its majestic bell tower, remarkable stained-glass windows, and rich historical and religious heritage. It is a true Gothic gem dating back to the Renaissance.

The Church of Saint Maurice was built between 1834 and 1839 according to plans by the Dijon architect Fénéon-Damotte. It follows the traditions of neoclassical churches built in the first half of the 19th century. A façade bell tower is preceded by a peristyle with a pediment supported by four Doric columns. The church has the unique feature of being built on submerged oak trees, as it is actually located in the old branch of the Saône, which was diverted.

In the Serre massif, a natural area perfect for mountain biking, the Hermitage cave is a curiosity that invites you to take a break. If erosion has given the rock its particular shape, the human hand has also intervened in the shaping of the cave.

The Église de la Sainte-Trinité is a Catholic church in the village of Auxon-Dessous, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The church was destroyed by fire in 1700 and was rebuilt in the 18th century in the Classical style. The church has a retable (a decorated altarpiece) from 1705 and some tombstones from the 17th and 18th centuries. The church was renovated in the 19th century under the direction of the architect Lucien CUENOT. The church is still in use for worship.
