The Elector's Summer Residence With the creation of the spa park in 1787, Bad Nenndorf became a popular destination for day trips. Landgrave William IX of Hesse-Kassel recognized this potential. Just a few years after the town's development, he commissioned the construction of the Landgrave's House. It was intended to serve as his summer residence. The presence of the future Elector also attracted other prominent guests, giving the town an additional boost. Among the most famous guests, some of whom also stayed at the Landgrave's House, were renowned writers such as Goethe, Schiller, and Herder. However, the Elector was not able to enjoy the Landgrave's House for long. It was not fully completed until 1806. Only a year later, French troops marched into the town and occupied the small palace. Jérôme Bonaparte, the new King of Westphalia, became its new resident. He also introduced mud baths to the town, a spa treatment that is now widely recognized. In 1934, a fire completely destroyed the building. Fortunately, the original building plans from 1791 were still available, allowing the Landgrave's House to be reconstructed almost exactly as it had been. Since then, as before the fire, the building has once again been used as a coffee house. It is also open to the public during set opening hours. The "Walterbachtal" was declared a nature reserve in 1987. It encompasses a valley up to 100 meters wide, with the approximately three-meter-wide Walterbach stream, as well as adjacent slopes predominantly covered with species-rich beech and oak forests. The lowland is largely covered by pastures, which provide a valuable habitat for numerous animal and plant species. Of particular importance are the springs and spring-fed areas on the slopes, with their abundant spring-flowering plants. Brown trout and bullheads live in the stream itself. At the same time, the stream valley provides a habitat for amphibians and serves as a breeding and resting habitat for numerous bird species. The trail begins directly in the lovely Walterbachtal. After the path through the forest, the landscape opens up, offering impressive views of the Süntel Valley. The spa park is a great place to relax and take a stroll, especially when the weather is nice. There is a lot to discover here: the romantic little castle, beautiful flowerbeds, fountains and the enchanted Süntelbuchenallee. Definitely worth a visit!

The people of Bad Nenndorf have a lot to thank their Landgrave Wilhelm IX of Hesse-Kassel for recognizing the importance of the sulfur water and thus becoming the spa's founder in 1787. He also had a hand in the spa park, as it was his court gardener Georg Wilhelm Homburg from Kassel who began designing the complex in 1792 after two years of study in England. 203 types of trees, 33 different roses and 37 types of shrubs were planted on 35 hectares. And some of them can still be admired today. The spa park in Bad Nenndorf enjoys the status of a cultural monument as a historic green space. 2월 6, 2024, Kurpark Bad Nenndorf
It stands in one of the most beautiful places in the Bad Nenndorf spa park: the little castle - built in 1806 in the classicism style. The building initially served as the electoral summer residence for Landgrave Wilhelm I, the later Elector. But just two years later, King Jérôme moved in here. From then on, Napoleon's brother celebrated many happy festivals here - which earned him the nickname “King Lustik”. Source: https://deister-erleben.de/schloesschen-im-kurpark/
