However, the Elector was not able to enjoy the Landgrave's House for long. It was not fully completed until 1806. Only a year later, French troops marched into the town and occupied the small palace. Jérôme Bonaparte, the new King of Westphalia, became its new resident. He also introduced mud baths to the town, a spa treatment that is now widely recognized. In 1934, a fire completely destroyed the building. Fortunately, the original building plans from 1791 were still available, allowing the Landgrave's House to be reconstructed almost exactly as it had been. Of particular importance are the springs and spring-fed areas on the slopes, with their abundant spring-flowering plants. Brown trout and bullheads live in the stream itself.
