With the patronage of "John the Baptist", this parish has chosen a saint who is considered a forerunner of Jesus Christ. The Béatrix cave is a natural wonder hidden in the forest of Fontainebleau. This cave, dug in the sandstone, is accessible during an outing in the forest. It offers an enchanting spectacle with its stalactites, its concretions and its walls covered with moss. It is also known to have been the place of meditation of Queen Marie-Antoinette.

Although the church is commonly referred to as a basilica, it has not been designated as such by the pope and is therefore not a basilica under Church rules. This church had to undergo many vicissitudes over the centuries, damage from armed troops, hurricanes, storms. Irremediable damage took place during the wars of religion. Restoration work was carried out in an emergency and without great care during the 19th century, in order to allow the reopening of the church for worship. The church was listed as a Historic Monument by Prosper Mérimée in the mid-19th century. And so it is that a part has remained in a state of ruin, while the main body of the church remains maintained, and can therefore shelter the exercise of worship or religious ceremonies. Please note that there is a drinking water tap with free access under the trees in the small square below the church.
